The Monomyth

We covered a lot this week.

First, we were introduced to the idea of the monomyth or the "one story." Click here for the first video we watched which explains the Hero's journey. (Yes, click her means click on the text for the link.) We’ve been telling the same story for thousands of years, but we changed the names, places and situations.  It’s kind of interesting to think that the stories of Harry Potter, King Arthur, Shrek, Katniss Everdeen and Buddha are all so similar even though they’re separated by time and geography.

Today we reviewed the important steps in Campbell's theory of the Hero's Journey. Click here for the Ted-Ed Video.

For Homework tonight, I want you to start thinking about how your summer reading assignment might relate to the theory of the hero's journey. On Friday you will turn in (handwritten or typed) describing this text-to-text connection, or explain why you think there is no connection between these two texts.
